Nippers is about having fun while learning new skills and making new friends. Your children do not need to be an awesome swimmer to start, but some skill level will be required.
To be a Nipper your child will be in the age groups from 5 to 13 years of age, with a minimum of 5 years of age as of the 30th September to join). A child may commence after they have attained the age of 5 years post September 30 however under SLSA requirements must stay in the U6s age group for the following year.

Our Nippers events are run between October and March. At Woonona SLSC, our Nippers meet fortnightly for a two hour period with muster at the club house from 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
Nippers is a foundation from which we build basic surf skills, competition skills and awards knowledge. Our age managers aim to give your child an understanding of Surf Life Saving through fun and games whilst teaching them water safety and skills for safe beach swimming.
As mentioned, in U8 to U14 age groups, some water skills are required for a child to safely take part in the activities – these are referred to as proficiencies. Your child will be assessed for these proficiencies generally at the start of the
season. These assessments allow us to understand which kids might need more support in the water and are determined by SLSA.
If you have any questions regarding the proficiencies please speak to a Woonona SLSC Committee member OR your child’s age manager.
